ISO 45001: Information on its implementation and future

ISO has scheduled a so-called 'systematic review request' for the end of 2023. This is the basis for deciding on any new version of the standard.

In preparation, a working group (TG6) was launched by the relevant technical committee ISO/TC 283 - Occupational health and safety management to determine what adaptations and/or additions might be useful for a possible new version of the standard. However, the road is still long and strewn with obstacles. In the meantime, ISO does provide two tools for those companies already thinking of implementing a safety management system:

• Manuel ISO 45001:2018 : This is a practical guide for small organisations published in 2020.
• ISO 45002:2023 - OH&S management – General guidelines for the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 : This standard published in 2023 describes in some 70 pages a number of case studies.

Both documents can be obtained from all national standards institutes.
